As a school administrator, you are probably aware of how many hours elapsed in Moore before students were reunited with parents following the 2013 tornado. Also, you are probably aware of the anxiety teachers experience knowing they are responsible for 30-40 terrified students during serious events such as this.

And we wonder why non-gun folks question our need to be armed every time we leave our beds.

I don't understand what your point is! Help please

My view is that pro active means taking advantage of the far and away more schools with save rooms that in turn offer far more students safety vs going home to NO safe facility!

All things being equal, I agree with you. However, the admin. must deal with parents as well as actual situations. Following the Moore situation, many parents waited hours before being reunited with their children in the affected schools. That is still very fresh in the memories of most in the Moore/SWOKC area. Today's situation is quite likely going to be similar in some areas of the state. They take the best information they have at hand, and make the best decision they can. Much too easy for us to second guess them, with our limited liabilities.

Guess my point is this is not the first high risk day for storms . So now there are countless parents AT work with their children sitting at home by themselves with no adult to console them or provide the parent at work with the out the peace of mind knowing,"my child is adult supervised and have access to a safe place. My decision would have been to have school for those who may very well feel the unknowns that I described!! That seems far more prudent than leaving them at home ALONE! I

This very high risk has been forecast for the past three or four days. Most folks that have access to any sore of commercial or social media have been very much aware for days and have made appropriate decisions. Here in OKC, many businesses have closed, airlines have cancelled flights. Tinker has evacuated aircraft to safer locations. This could potentially be a very big deal.

Completely agree with you regarding the seriousness of the situation! Just have delt with the home alone thing for closing schools many times ! I have felt the wrath of many parents for bad roads, ice ,snow. To think I could take care of a far more serious level for parents and put to use those special lesson plans used for just such days, while feeding and protecting their children well, I'm sorry but trumps my closing a school! No one will change that perspective for me as students come first to me.
