Yeti, thank you for your response. Yes, I read the rest of the paragraph. My confusion is the caliber angle. We discussed this in our CHL class that .223 is smaller than .45 caliber. Notice, it doesn’t say .45ACP. Also, now, it’s legal to open carry if you possess a CHL. I guess I’m a little confused on the SDA thing and how it might forbid carrying an AR pistol, perhaps I’m ignorant. Can you help me out a little?

I never called you ignorant, but I see what you are trying to do, and this will be the last thing I say about this. There was a discussion that was posted and I gave my 2 cents, I guess that makes me the ignorant one for stating my opinion and my interpretation the law. You can have 3 different people read the SDA law and have 3 different ways they will interpret the law, but I would not just take the advice of a discussion at any CHL class. I would only take the advice of a lawyer. Like I said, if you flirt with the law it could cost you. Again I personally don’t give 2 s***s either way, but PERSONALLY I would never carry one or even carry openly. Again this is my opinion, nothing more.

I just took my SDA class this year and we talked about AR pistols. They ARE legal, just not advised to carry for the attention they bring. However, rifle caliber pistols are not illegal. The only rounds that can not be carried are A) "Restricted bullet" means a round or elongated missile with a core of less than sixty percent (60%) lead and having a fluorocarbon coating, which is designed to travel at a high velocity and is capable of penetrating body armor; B) rounds larger than .45. Now they didn't include rifle caliber rounds due to previous law not allowing carrying a rifle unless doing a lawful activity such as hunting or sporting event. But as of right now rifle rounds are not prohibited ammunition for carrying.

We should be cautious with 'terms'. 'Loophole' would be better replaced with 'work around' because the 2A haters love to close 'loopholes'.

I personally typically travel with a 10.5” Folding AR in 556 with a KAK blade. It is accurate and reliable and is a great reassurance to know it is available IF needed. My EDC body gun is usually a 9mm or a 380 pocket pistol. Again I do not anticipate ever needing to use the AR, however I would rather have the comfort of that extra level of protection IF needed.

I don't see what the issue is. You can shoulder a buffer tube just like a brace. It ain't cheating, or a loophole or flipping ATF the bird.

I never said illegal; all I mentioned was the SDA specified a .45, whether that’s a .45 ACP or a .450 Bushmaster, it’s technically at .45 diameter projectile. It’s not very specific, so there is a grey area in the law. Why try to ride that grey area, it will end up with you spending time in jail or money to fight something that is not very clear.

When talk to your lawyer and tell him the reason you was carrying a AR pistol or whatever is “well in my conceal/whatever class, we discussed it and we determined it was ok. By the way we interpreted the law”, will not hold up. See you all can throw all the, we talked about in a class, but I doubt any of you all are/where lawyers and probably no lawyers in you class. So again three different people will have three different ways they see the law. We had a thread not so long ago about a guy carrying an AR around and someone called the cops on him because he had a scary black rifle, this is the attention if I’m carrying a weapon I don’t want. Whatever the reason you want to or need to carry an rifle caliber pistol is none of my business, I was just giving my 2 cents that I wouldn’t, period. I’m sure I’ll hear that I talked or know a lawyer that told me….whatever, until I hear it with my own ears from a known lawyer I won’t believe it.

Currently i am all for Ar pistols as i am currently getting the parts together to put one together. Something easier to pack out to the car without neighbors or random strangers getting suspicious.
