Everyone should beware of doing anything on your property (or posting anything online) that indicates you may be setting a trap.

Those scenarios don't always go well in "self defense" claims.

Not a lawyer, just my 2¢ ... :drunk2:

I’m only going to stay there when I need to for time and gas savings. Going to get the alarm up to date and post new signs. Fortify the fence entrance.

What kind of trap involves a few dudes driving up to your house and kicking in your door?

I don’t think they’ll do it with a truck in the driveway anyway. It had to be someone use to hitting construction sites. The stuff they took most thieves wouldn’t bother with. Tile is heavy!! Harbor freight tools mostly.

Good luck convincing folks that's the real reason after a break-in and theft have occurred. Especially if you haven't stayed there previously.

The same kind that involves sitting in your basement and shooting intruders that have stolen stuff from your basement before (google "Byron David Smith").

Hopefully not, and this should be a point in your favor. Don't attempt to make folks think nobody is there (as Smith did), and make sure to lock all doors & windows so forced entry is necessary.

However, just going outside armed (if they start breaking into your truck, etc.) could present you as the aggressor because you left the safety of the house.

The law has a very narrow path for justified self-defense. Straying from that path will not end well for you.

Still not a lawyer. Just don't want you to get in a bind.
