Suck situation on the car rental deal is that she is 20 and was told she needed to be 21 at the rental places she called.
She kept receipts for the fix on the last go round.

She can still ask for a cash payment. Get a handwritten receipt saying a friend loaned her a car for 25 bucks a day or something. We’ve paid more based of less.

Ford Taurus with liability only, around a 2002 year.
You should have seen it after her brother hit a tree with it. I fixed that.
Strut tower was bent in and a chain and my car pulled it all back out. Then some bottle jack and creative thinking and a fender and hood it was looking quite nice.
Had to replace cooling tank and remove oil pan and beat dents out of it and weld up 1 hole in the oil pan.

Poor car has seen better days.
3.0V6 and runs excellent.. well after I removed the catalyst that was all broken up and clogging the exhaust system..
Seems when you ramp a car up a steel fence at 60 MPH and pound into a huge tree stuff gets shook loose :) I can fix it.
Had this been a Chevy it would have succumbed to the injuries long ago. Built ford tough ain’t no lie!

She stated a bit ago that now the city does not want to do anything .

She will Lawyer up now.

Check out this picture of the same car after her brother mushed it all up.
I fixed that. She helped and I would not work on it unless she was there getting just as dirty if not more.
Oil pan was impaled strut tower pushed over about 6" among other things..Fun stuff.

When you engage in actions that, to a reasonable person, have the very real potential of causing harm to another, that is negligence.
This cop is charged with protecting and serving the populace, and enforcing laws.
I personally think that whomever is in a position of enforcement should be held to a higher standard than others, but I would be thrilled to see them just held to the same standards.
If that cop was texting or talking on the phone, I am almost certain that is against department policy, and I AM certain that it is unlawful to text whilst driving.
If he was engaged in unlawful behavior, and it resulted in the injury of a civilian, what should be the outcome .?

That sort of behavior should have him fired, and charged with willful negligence.
Agree with all but the firing. He should get a letter and a few days rest but not fired.

I predict that your friend gets squat. Cops will claim officer was on a call, and your friend should have yielded to the squad car.
No lights, no siren, no matter.

Gee, if only someone had predicted the city being reluctant to pay out.

She hasn't seen anything yet. Just wait, she's not going to get squat.
The thin blue line (cops protect cops), combined with bureaucratic runaround, and taxpayer funded attorneys, will keep her busy for years.
If she can't afford that, she just needs to report to her insurance.

The OP needs to have his friend call Vaughn Conway. He's been successful in four claims against OKC that personally know of. He works on a contingency fee basis so you pay no money up front.
The process for filing claims against the city is designed to be extremely frusturating. They hope most folks will just give up.

FOIA the dash cam video.
They do not have dash cams, not all of OCPD has body cams at this time either. Prisoner compartment has no cameras either. The two new paddy wagons do have cameras that cover the prisoner containment areas. The COMIT vehicles do have dash cams, but those belong to County DA's office.

The OKC cop that stopped Kelsey Pierce and violated her 4th Amendment rights had a body cam. Might explain why the police don't want any kind of cams....it holds them accountable. My nephew is a St. Louis cop and they do not have cams either. He asked his supervisor if he could purchase his own cam and was denied. In this day and age all enforcement officers should be cammed up.

Especially since it probably exonerates more officers than anything else.
