I saw this posted on another forum and thought I would post it here. Some on the forum thought the airmen were just blowing off some youthful steam/letting go and were willing to give them a pass on their behavior. Others thought their behavior would reflect badly on the way that civilians perceived the military and that they needed to be called down on it. I am just curious how it will play here with so many different opinions/attitudes that we have on this forum.

Aren't there regulations concerning proper conduct while in uniform? If they broke them, hold them appropriately accountable. Having fun is fine, but you have to respect the uniform. To whatever extent you're allowed to "have fun" in uniform, it looks like they were having some fun.

The 06 handled it by passing it down to company-grade supervision.
“I am disappointed in the actions of the Airmen. Their actions are not representative of the members of Joint Base Charleston,” said Col. Terrence Adams, commander of Joint Base Charleston. “The Airmen are being identified and unit leadership is addressing the situation accordingly. We expect the utmost professionalism and respect from all of our service members.”

As a former commander, I think the incident indicates a loosey-goosey attitude in the workshops being tolerated by the lower-level supervision, that needs gentle but firm application of discipline. Trust me, a lot worse than this comes up in units that get too informal.

I know someone whose brother was a senior Marine officer who spent a couple of years at a joint command base, and I heard stories (via the person I know) about how lax the Air Force discipline was. He reportedly brought it up with some of his USAF counterparts, and they wrote it off as the airmen he specifically pointed out having just come back from overseas, and just about to get out. He pointed out that the Marines on the base were in the same position, but were still carrying themselves with military bearing.

Then again, a former Marine I know had some interesting tales about sneaking off post and going to TJ in a deuce-and-a-half after Desert Storm, so...

Social media brings this stuff into public view so the Base Commander has to do something.
Back in the day, the same stuff went on and sometimes at a much higher level. You did it, let your buds see it personally or told them about it and that was the end of it.
Today everybody thinks they need to be an internet sensation or a YouTube star.
Antics in the Military are not the time nor place to do that. Take off your uniform and have fun. :hey3:

Although clearly not appropriate, it's nothing a good arse chewing can't resolve. I think this was blown way out of proportion. Disability scooters get used by a whole lot of able-bodied lazy food blisters at Wal-Mart anyway.

I'm supposed to care about silly crap like this when there's stuff like this? Our enemies have got to be laughing their arses off at us.

Marine Corps issues service guidance for transgender troops

"As with the other military services, the Corps will now officially identify a service member's gender by what is being called the "gender marker" indicated in the Marine Corps Total Force System and the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, according to the bulletin.

That marker determines which uniforms and grooming standards apply to a sailor or Marine, as well as which physical fitness standards they'll have to meet. It also determines whether they'll use male or female shower facilities, bathrooms and berthing.
Changing that marker in the system is now possible, but only once the transition is totally complete. The bulletin says it's up to the Marine or sailor to get "legal documentation which indicates your preferred gender." "

Oh I agree, it probably deserves some punishment, but not execution. The letter says it will be dealt with, and I'm perfectly satisfied with whatever their superior officers decide is appropriate.

Social media...meh. I am very happy that during my "party days" in the Air Force, social media wasn't a thing...so there was a LOT of debauchery that would have gotten my azz kicked right outta the AF. There were a handful of O's that were as big as trouble makers as some of the E's I knew and one of them is now a two star.
