My brother recently picked up @chazroh 's STI Edge that was in the classifieds. After getting the chance to shoot it, I've gotten the itch to pick up an Edge or a bull barreled Eagle in .40.

If anyone has any experience with the 2011 platform and has any advice or suggestions, it would be appreciated. From what I've heard there have been some QC issues with the newer STI pistols, but I'm not sure what timeframe that these issues began. Are there many issues documented with the second generation Edges and Eagles or does this apply more to the new DVC line? Is it better to try picking up a new pistol from Dawson or another distributor with a warranty (if there are any leftovers still in stock) or to just look for a used example with extra mags, etc?

I'm likely going to have to part with one or two substantial pieces of my collection to fund the purchase so I want to make sure than I'm not getting into a platform that will require constant tuning or repairs to run reliably.

I have a 9mm build I’ve never finished if you want to try to be bob the builder. You’re smart enough to do it. Otherwise buy a used one, but get it as stock as possible. Owners screw everything up w em.

I have bought new and used, never really had many serious issues. Used is generally better for me cause the price is better. @Gunbuffer would probably be the best to address fixing issues. Overall I have had pleasant experiences with them.
As @Ignored Member mentioned, mags with the gun are a plus

If you have any issues STI has been fantastic in customer support. I've seen them offer to loan new guns to shooters that had one go down at matches too.

They replaced the rear site on my Trojan and they don't even make them anymore. Why they wanted me to send the whole gun, IDK, but they footed the bill. So I had them hard chrome it while they had it. Looks fantastic and didn't take months.

Thanks for the input guys. It's much appreciated.

If Gunbuffer's unfinished build doesn't happen to pan out, I'll be keeping my eye out for a used pistol that is still stock. Did anyone have any thoughts on the earlier versus later Edge and Eagle pistols? Is there any difference in build quality?

I've heard a lot of talk about how QC kinda went out the window the past 2-5 years but it's coming back around now, so if you find an older one with the large billboard, get it.
The newer ones have a small billboard on the bottom right of the slide.
Here's mine with the older, large billboard.

Thanks a ton. That's exactly the answer that I was looking for.
