So has anyone here started a grow operation?!?

My business for the last 20 years is going south, and I’m looking for another business venture. I already own a house and land in Oklahoma, and it’s looking like I’m going to have some time on my hands. I’m curious what kind of start up investment is required (in real numbers not guesstimation/speculation).

I had a weed crop like you wouldn't believe this summer.

Hiring yer lawn mowed is expensive.

For starters, I had our farmer that leases our farms ask me if he could grow hemp over a year ago.
I visited with the NRCS agent in our county about it.
They informed me that the official position of the US Government is that marijuana and hemp even though hemp doesn’t contain THC is still classified as a narcotic in federal law and they have been instructed to remain mute on any advice to farmers about the subject.

All that being said, I can drive you to a dozen grow houses that are being built in small communities or local farms in my area.
Some buildings in the communities that have been vacant for years are being bought by foreign interests BTW for grows.
The way I see it personally is that the feds are pretty much ignoring commercial operations and I see it being legalized on a national basis pretty soon although the feds will want their slice of the tax pie to feed that big belly it has.
I haven’t visited with the NRCS since then and Ok has passed some laws since then but the feds still classify it as a narcotic.

I have some friends that operate a substantial grow. Three warehouses in different stages of growing across 50,000 combined square feet. Another building for process and packaging. Lights, electric, water, chemicals, fertilizer, machinery to process final products, packaged weed, cbd and thc oils, vaporizer cartridges, machine made joints, licensing, trademarks, transportation, etc... I can't imagine what the cost is. They were well off to begin with, started rather small but have grown quickly. It seems it will very profitable when they're finally able to turn a profit. The started growing a day after it was permissible.

I see the market being flooded with only those having deep pockets able to weather the period while the market is flooded and the weak die off leaving those with assets to finally get to a sustainable level in the market.
Only the big survive.

That's what they've talked about. They lucked out getting a fat contract for CBD+, they buy every ounce of the stuff they produce. They also have a handful of despenseries, but there's so many of them, they don't turn profits in retail.

@retrieverman There is someone on here but, I can't recall who it is, that has some grow houses they lease out and a dispensary.

I do remember that they have an old truck as their business sign though. They posted about it with a link and some pictures I believe.

Maybe somebody here can remember who it is. I would think he could answer a lot if your questions.

Hemp you first mention and the plants in grow houses later in your posts are different. Different purpose, different use, and different regulation.
