Dad was in Okinawa and was in one of the nine divisions they were going to sacrifice to invade Japan in Operation Downfall.

Heartbreaking to even try and comprehend what those men had to endure. The old movies had it pretty sanitized. Man gets shot falls over dead has a red mark on him. Then after you saw movies like Saving Private Ryan and HBOs Band of Brothers you get an idea of how gruesome and painful it was. We should always be grateful for the those who were willing to answer the call.

I don't have enough time to watch it all tonight, but I have the first disc of the Blu-Ray of The Longest Day in the ol' Blu-ray player right now.
If you haven't, make the time to read Cornelius Ryan's The Longest Day, the book on which the movie was based. The movie is excellent, but the book is even better.

I watched Saving Private Ryan. Tough movie.
Watched it as well. Very tough to watch. Also listened to Trump's speech, watched the Band of Brothers DDay episode and A Bridge Too Far. Great reminders.
