US makes deal with Mexico on tariffs, immigration, Trump announces

The U.S. has reached an agreement with Mexico that heads off the start of tariffs on Monday, President Trump said in Friday night tweets.

"I am pleased to inform you that The United States of America has reached a signed agreement with Mexico. The Tariffs scheduled to be implemented by the U.S. on Monday, against Mexico, are hereby indefinitely suspended," he said. "Mexico, in turn, has agreed to take strong measures to....stem the tide of Migration through Mexico, and to our Southern Border. This is being done to greatly reduce, or eliminate, Illegal Immigration coming from Mexico and into the United States. Details of the agreement will be released shortly by the State Department. Thank you!"

Mexico has agreed to the agreement and are deploying Mexican National Guardsmen to their southern border to stop the flow which they could have done years ago. What country allows hundreds of thousands of people from other countries to walk unimpeded through their country to another country? Mexico was 100% complicit in this scheme. Listened to an interview of some of the "migrants" as they are called in the MSM. He said the Mexican police would arrest a few of them to show they are "doing something" and have the proof to back it up and then just release them after their personal data was recorded.
If they don't abide by the agreement, the tariffs will come right back according to Mulvenny and Trump.
I suspect Mexico is going to go by the agreement and then find an excuse for why the illegals start coming back and then the real truth will come out. I just hope the US slaps the tariffs right back on then at the 25% level.
It's a shame that it has to come to this level because the congress won't do a damn thing to stop it because it would have given Trump a political win. Guess what....he just got a political win and the idiots in congress look like what they are.....idiots.
This entire scenario can and will have repercussions world wide. The world is learning to respect the US once again as a world power and not as an apologetic wimp like the ostupid years. Good grief that was an embarrassing 8 years for the US.
The third world countries only respect someone more powerful than they are. It's not going to change either.

If you tune in to the Clinton News Network, Trump is just going for the ‘perception’ that it’s working. That’s the best they can come up with...

Tariffs are bad for the overall economy and bad for consumers on our side of the border. That is an economic fact.

That being said, I actually think Trump's use of them in this situation was perfectly played. Short term and goal driven. It seems to have had the desired effect. The real problem is that I don't think Mexico is capable of controlling it's own borders let alone policing it's interior. We will see what we will see though.

Tariffs are bad for the economy in that they are costly but compare the cost of taking care of generational illegals-food Stamps, Housing Subsidies, medical care, driving without insurance etc. That can add up to quite a bit over just a few years.

Tariffs do create inflationary increases in the price of imported goods, but it does help domestic producers to be more competitive and can help generate more investment domestically.

Yes, some segments benefit from increased production but that is an artificial effect and there is a negative ripple through other segments of the economy. Domestic goods increase in price due to the increased pressure on production and competing resources, other segments experience a loss due to the loss of foreign orders etc...That's an economic fact that is supported by reams of data and research over the years.

That's why tariffs should be sparingly used and have clear guidelines and goals. They should never be business as usual or permanent. That's why I said Trump's use of them here was good.
