I've had my ham license for 27 years, but just recently decided to get back in the hobby after being inactive for many years. I hope to get deeper into HF, so I'm going to pass the General test in July after the new question pool comes out.

Is getting a HT worth spending the money for in the Tulsa/BA area?

Can’t speak for the Tulsa area but an HT is nice to have in the Edmond area when storms are rolling through. It’s also a must when helping with volunteer activities such as the OKC Memorial Day Marathon or various parades.

Lots of activity on the repeaters, mostly nets, some ragchewing. HT's good for emergency communications. More activity on
HF.

I've always been interested in the ham radio hobby, a friend of mine in the military used to go out in his car a t lunch time and come back in telling us he spoke to someone in Europe and we were envious. I heard that they don't require Morse Code on the tests these days?

If you would have had an HT today, you could have followed the Tulsa Tough road events thru Creek & Okmulgee County plus in Tulsa on 145.110 & 147.390. Dealt with a couple of ambulance calls, helping riders with tire or mechanical problems and those who just couldn’t crank a pedal another rotation.

Tomorrow is more of the same on 145.110 & 444.725 as the road events go to Osage County.
