Me too. Braum's half gallon are now 3 pints.

i threw the BS flag in a store over that one a couple of years back. the manager looked me in the eye and said his customers had requested smaller containers and were content with paying the same amount for less. i stated "bulls__t" and stalked out

Yes, the label does show it as "yeast extract" in the ingredients.

For some reason I didn't know that this was a thing. Good to know as both my parents are also allergic to MSG. Sneaky company bastages!

Going to go through the cupboards to check everything now.

@RETOKSQUID So MSG and Yeast Extract aren't exactly the same thing, but they're similar enough in their glutamate content that an MSG-sensitive person should probably avoid it as the reactions can be the same.

@ConstitutionCowboy do you have to avoid nuts, soy, cheese, tomatoes also? Or just the MSG and yeast (and presumably soy sauce which is fermented)? I know the MSG and yeast have a different glutamate due to their processing which is usually the trigger, but some are sensitive enough they have to avoid the naturally-occurring glutamate-rich foods (like listed earlier).

Thanks, good to know.

We are getting away from all the processed food at our house. Going back to the basics and will be more involved in our dinner prep. Have been making our own tortillas, breads, and pastas for a while now. Starting to can our own veggies out of the garden, or fresh produce when we find decent prices.

Go to lowes we have the kingsford double pack in 20 pound bags, our 18.6 pounders went nonstock and won't carry it.

MSG for me gives me major headaches, can't have it, sad part is I love chinese food and its loaded with MSG. Also watch your seasonings most have MSG in them as well.

I have never had a problem with nuts, cheese, don't use soy sauce, and only over-acid stomach with tomatoes(Thank the Lord for Tums!). I don't have a problem with foods containing naturally occurring MSG because it is still encased within the yeast. It's only when the MSG is extracted and used in food that I have a problem.

Interesting. At least beer (and its requisite yeast) is safe it sounds like.
