There is also excise tax on 4 Wheelers. I found that out when I purchased my new polaris. You go down to get the title in your name. They give you this sticker you have to attach to the vehicle. Excise tax on a 4wheeler that will never travel on the roadways. Geeeees.

That sticker will allow you to ride off road in New Mexico and I think Colorado without having to pay their off road tax.

I bought 2 new vehicles in 2017 after HB 2433 was effective. I created a spreadsheet to calculate the amount I would have to pay the Tax Commission. The total was $3,828 or about 4.6% of the purchase price for taxes and fees.

The fees are currently the same as 2017. I would expect an increase within a year or two.

They had to add that tax because of all those who never actually pay it. You know, the ones with paper tags from a year ago.

See those all over Tulsa when driving yet I was driving on eggshells for a couple of days because I'd been sick and let my tag expire. I only had to pay a 3-day late fee on the new sticker. I just knew I'd get ticketed for multi-bucks yet the paper-tag crew drives daily with cops apparently oblivious.

Well now they have added "you own the tag" to the mix. Previously, you could sell a car shortly after getting the tag renewed and the new owner could drive it without needing to update the tag or get insurance until the tag was expired. I know several people that did this often. Now you have to take the tag off the car when you sell it. I'm not sure what you put back onto it though ...

"Title jumping" wasn't legal in the first place. Still had to have insurance and move the registration into your name. And the excise/sales tax is a different beast than registration.
