Actually after looking around a bit, I think it is a worm, a mermithid parasitic worm.....never heard of them till now, learned something today thanks! :)

Well, if it is a parasite, perhaps that worm is somewhat feeding on the spider. It doesn't appear to be very near the spider's mouth.

But then, what do I know about spiders?

That was my first guess. a spider recently deceased as a result of a parasitic worm, The worm invades the host, and takes over it's body. then it plants its babies in the inside of the spider and slowly eats the spider until they're mature.
