Thats how it was when I was growing up. If mama cooked it you ate it. You weren't asked what you wanted to eat. But thats from back in the day when parents were parents.
If Mom put it on the plate you ate it. If not for supper, you could have it the next morning for breakfast. I you still didn't like it it would be there for supper again. It definitely didn't get better with age and there were no microwaves.
The shout could be heard throughout the neighborhood, "Johnny, come to supper." We didn't have to be told twice because we were active and hungry from burins off the earlier meal. It was usually pinto beans and cornbread because we couldn't afford anything else. Add a few onion slices and viola! A meal fit for an active kid. During the season, we have agreed beans we picked form the garden, I used to go into the garden and pick and eat the raw green beans, radishes and tomatoes. The radishes we'd wash off in our mouths and then eat the clean product. The sweets we'd have were fresh blackberries gathered from the nearby woods, covered with goat's milk and sweetened with little sugar. Never a coke or soft drink except once in a while at school for 5 cents-even nickels were rare. We were extremely poor to the point we should have been extinct-were it not for the pinto beans we would have been extinct. As it were, we just smelled "extinct" due to the effects of the pinto beans.

I never would eat liver, still don't. Later in life learned to eat pinto beans, onions corn bread, salad.
Eating liver, especially chicken liver is a terrible waste of good catfish bait.
Thankfully wasn't a lot of meals I didn't want to eat as a kid. Same for my best friend. We would find out what the other was having for dinner and make sure we were at the best options house at dinner time. On lots of occasions we both at both places.
