Terrible. It’s a shame we can’t ride without fear of being ran over. My neighbors were traveling home from Colorado last year and were hit head on. The husband was killed and the wife suffered many broken bones and severe burns.

When I had my bike, part of the allure was the danger of almost getting hit everytime I rode in town. At least for a while. I couldn't ever do the highway funrun stuff. Just didn't see the point. Saw a fellow cyclist get creamed at a busy intersection in Lawton, driver ran the red light, don't know if he lived or not. Sold the bike the next day.

Years ago saw a Wife and Husband leave their 3 small kids without parents. Then years later saw another dad leave his kids without a daddy. Very high risk hobby. Never had the desire after I was in my mid 20s to use any mode of transportation without 4 wheels and doors.

The driver has a heck of a weird name. I sure hope all these peoples lives and those around them aren't devastated over something stupid like a text message.

I had a motorcycle and my son did too. Both escaped close calls. I still love/miss the feel of riding around the lake.

Prayers go out to all families in above tragedy.

Used to do 14 state...4000 mile trips with hardly any issues. Sold my bike right after cell phones came out. Had 3 close calls on the Turner coming out of T town. All 3 drivers were yammering on their cell phones while driving. 2 swerved into me, one almost hit me from behind.

When I retired I rode my Road King to CA. An illegal alien with no insurance turned left in front of me on Monterey Beach Road and totaled the bike. Fortunately, I wasn’t injured.
I bought another Harley and rode it just over 20k miles in 1 year before wising up and buying a BMW R1200 RT. I rode over 110K miles in the next 3 years and saw some great parts of America on 2 wheels. You can see some of the video on my YouTube channel with this same user name if you’re bored.
I can’t tell you the number of close calls I’ve had but it’s been many and I’ve been very lucky. Everyone is on their phone and even though my last bike had 6 lights on the front I still had idiots try to kill me on an almost daily basis. I once rode next to OHP097 on I44 as he steered his cruiser with his knees while he had a cell phone in both hands. OCPD, OHP, and others do nothing about distracted driving even though the current law was passed after a trooper was killed by a texting driver.
I sold my bike last June and miss riding a lot. Getting killed is one thing but being seriously injured and an invalid for the rest of my life is not something I’m prepared to do.
When I rode I practiced emergency stops and collision avoidance a lot and it saved me many times. If you ride I suggest you do the same. The roads are full of idiots and not much of any law enforcement agency doing anything about it. I realize they can’t be everywhere but if given the authority to do so, I could write a lot of tickets daily for distracted driving and excessive speed. Ride safe, drivers certainly aren’t looking out for you.

I had a motorcycle a long time ago. Almost every time I told someone I had one, they would tell me they used to have one but they crashed it and tore their knee up, so they got rid of it. So I got rid of mine before I crashed it and tore my knee up.

A pickup and trailer caused the wreck. From what I saw on the evening news, the trailer looked like an in-line round-bale hauler.

It was a pretty quick shot though, so I can't guarantee that, but the wreck did happen on a rural road.

Terribly sad in any case. :/
