Mine was done after the birth of our second son in 1972. Don't recall the after effects some have stated here. Only thing I remember is that if I needed to go to the bathroom, I'd better hurry and go or it could get painful.
So, that has probably been about 46 years ago. Lots of years of never having to worry about more offspring.

I didn’t read through the 8 pages of posts, but, I wish I hadn’t had it done. It seems to take a lot of steam out of you, if you know what I mean, or, maybe it’s all psychological with me? If I could turn back time, I wouldn’t do it again.

I had it done about 10 years ago.
Doc wanted me to take some pain pills before and gave me or tried to give me a prescription.
pain pills just make me sleepy but the pain is still there.
He said at least take some tylenol or something. Those things never do any good for me unless I have a fever.
I took nothing and showed up for the snip snip.
He said did you take pain meds I said no and asked him if he was giving me a local.
He said yes, I said lets do this.
Went like this.
Hot nurse walks in and shaves ya while holding your tool out of the way. Try not to get a stiffy is what I was thinking as my wife was sitting right beside me in a chair.
They put antiseptic on and then the local with a tiny needle to eliminate any pain.
Then a very small slice like 1/4" long in the side of the sack.
He reaches in to the slice and pulls out a white cord.
Hemostats both sides and snips a section from the middle of it.
Ties some silk thread around it and applied a few half hitches and I congratulated him on his knot tying abilities as I am sitting up watching all this go down.
He stated he had to go to school for 1 year just learning to tie knots.
Release of hemostat and one half of the tube sucked back into the sack. then released the other and it followed.
Then 1 tiny stitch to the sack.
I said that was not that bad.
He said now the other side.
He finished that one up and told me OK we are done see the nurse at the desk to schedule a follow up.
He then said thanks for not THROWING UP ON ME.
I said Really! people throw up on you.
Yep they do.
Wimps is what i say to all that.
You do not need before meds if you get a local.
No meds after for me and I frozen peas to the area for a few hours when i got home and took off work for 2 days and I had Zero issues.
Never felt any pain and never had any side effects.
Works like it did. Just not fertile.
Sex drive is just the same.
Deluxe treatment there with the hot nurse shave. In 1986, I was told to come in already shaved. Took the pills before, was given Demerol during the procedure, was wheel-chaired to my car and poured into it so my wife could drive me home.
