Florida Governor Signs Felon Voting Bill
Friday, 28 June 2019 09:52 PM

..."The amendment to restore voting rights for felons other than convicted murderers and sex offenders was approved with 64.5% of the vote. But the language said felons must complete their sentences, and Republicans interpreted that to include restitution, court costs, fines and fees imposed by a judge at sentencing."...

News Flash: Felons who have completed their sentences can vote in Oklahoma too.

So Florida just caught up to us and 18 other states with similar language.

The Florida law was also a result of a statewide vote by a overwhelming majority of voters, so the people of Florida wanted this. What the governor signed was a bill that clarified that payment of court costs and fees is a requirement to meet the "completed your sentence" portion. How is it bad?

The bill that clarifies that payment of RESTITUTION, court costs and fees imposed by a judge at sentencing is a requirement to meet the "completed your sentence" portion. If the felon, makes full RESTITUTION, along with the other requirements, to his victim(s), then that would be fine and they then should get their voting rights. But if the felon is allowed to do "community service" in lieu of paying RESTITUTION to his victims, that sucks. The felon should never receive voting rights until said victims receive their full RESTITUTION and are fully compensated for all loses the felon inflicted upon them. Why should the victim be allowed to suffer loses when the felon gets voting rights??? IMHO, this is just another case of leftists "buying the vote".

Nah, that's a bunch of nonsense. Lots of felonies are victimless, and it's not justice to invent more punishments after you already did your time.

Well that is a separate issue. If you don't like the way restitution is defined by the courts or the legislature, then that can be addressed.

will be interesting to see if this is challenged as a poll tax.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried it, but I don't expect it to fly. Paying the restitution isn't attached to the restoration of voting rights, it's attached to the penalty for the crime you committed. Until you complete the restitution, you have not paid the penalty for your crime.

I'd restore 2A rights if they are completely off probation etc. We have people that can't carry because they bounced a check eons ago. That's dumb.
