Never deer hunted there, but tried coyote calling there once several years back...weather was uncooperative for calling as it turned out, but saw tons of deer, hope the numbers are still there for yall

I got drawn for the 2 day Cookson WMA either sex deer hunt. Any pointers? Never been to that area.
It was a long time ago when I went on that hunt but seems like the food plots close to their headquarters building was the most productive. Although, I really enjoyed scouting for the most elk sign and hunting in those areas. It was a super cool experience to be in a tree stand and have an elk walk below you while you are waiting on deer. Seems like during the summer months they used to allow people to ride horseback and go hiking. I think they allow fishing on their ponds as well. Maybe you can make a trip over there this summer to familiarize yourself with the area. There are some really steep hills in that WMA, so steep and covered in gravel that you can't hiking straight up the mountain side. Some of the roads were not able to go in my 2WD pickup. They were usually loop roads so you could get down the steep runs but going up was near impossible.

Does anyone know what it means when it says “is exempt” under the hunt party heading? Says that by my name but not by the other person in my party?

I had the same question. A guy at work is listed as a hunter on his son in laws hunt choices. His copy said the same thing or similar

Maybe @Jared will come along with the answer.
Im not exactly sure...maybe it has something to do with licenses? Is it a WMA hunt or federal? Do you have a lifetime license and your hunting partner doesn’t? I think the WMA hunts the lifetime holders don’t pay for the bonus tags. Sorry I dont have a definitive answer.
