Got some bad news yesterday... we've been disinvited to the fancy place in Mustique. Apparently someone coughed up cash to rent the place out next week, when we were going to be mooching there for a couple of nights. Someone named Jonas and his wife who was on some soap opera about dragons. Anyways, I dunno.

We are looking into other options for visiting Mustique, but it's an expensive place, and we're already running on fumes in the budgetnwith a week to go, so we may hang around St. Vincent those three days.

In the meantime, I'll put up a couple more videos of the beach yesterday:

If it wasn't for student loans, I could move here. So... tell your kiddos, when they're headed off to college, don't borrow any more than you HAVE to borrow! Live frugally! Eat ramen, vienna sausages, whatever, but don't go out partying. I wish we had lived more frugally in med school and we could afford to move down here.

Don't get me wrong... I wouldn't make nearly as much money down here as I can in the US, and I couldn't live high on the hog, but... I could still make a decent living and I could LIVE HERE. Near THIS water! ALL THE TIME!

We have been impressing on my son how important it is to work hard, to pay attention in school, get good grades, be a good student, and then when you get out in your field, to be a good employee, and to always work hard and look for opportunities to make yourself more valuable to your employer. or ideally to own your own company.

I told him, we had a good talk the other day while paddling around in the water, that there is nothing wrong with being a day laborer, with manual labor, that is honorable, and you can make a good living for your family. BUT, and I stressed this to him, if you want to be able to travel, like... a LOT, and to go out and experience all the amazing things this world has to offer, you will have to do more. You will have to work not just HARDER, because LOTS of people work their asses off in grocery stores, in auto mechanic shops, in plumbing and service industries, etc., but if you want to be able to do THESE kinds of things, son, you have to work not just hard, but SMART. You have to find a way to make your way to the upper echelon of earning, AND you have to work hard to keep yourself OUT OF DEBT. We have continually tried to teach him about the dangers of revolving debt, of credit cards, and of student loans, which MAY be a necessary evil, but ways you can still manage to keep your debt down.

We plan on starting with him in early high school working hard and applying for scholarships. I've seen reports of kids going off to college with over a million dollars in scholarship offers, going WHEREVER they want and studying whatever they want - all for FREE! This is our goal for him, so he can start off with a better knowledge base than we had (the wife and I both fell into the credit card trap in college because no one taught us these things) and without already being behind in tons of student loan debt.

Taking him places like this, like the Italy trip we did last fall, etc., these are all learning experiences about the amazing world we live in and the experiences it has to offer, but ALSO, they are chances to teach him, if you want to do these things with your OWN wife and kids someday, it doesn't happen without hard work, and working SMART.

So, just in case you thought we were just down here partying it up, lol, I'm using this as a learning and teaching experience for my son. Hopefully he will learn from my past mistakes as well as our current wisdom. I don't know how else to do it, all we can do is try to teach him. He says the words, he agrees with me, but whether he will implement the things we are trying to teach him, I don't know. Only time will tell.

I worry about him more every day... you think you worry about your kids when they are little - and now... watching the young people of today, and knowing the horrible influences he has around him at school and on social media.... UGH! All I can do is try to teach him, and KEEP PRAYING FOR HIM.
