It's been 50 years since we went to the moon. I still remember it. I just cannot imagine us doing it today. We also did it with equipment that was from the lowest bidder and an onboard LEM computer with the memory of less than a TRS-80.

Apollo 11 was the spaceflight that first landed humans on the Moon. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin, both American, landed the Apollo Lunar Module Eagle on July 20, 1969, at 20:17 UTC.

Launch date: July 16, 1969, 8:32 AM GMT-5 Trending
Return launch: July 21, 1969, 17:54 UTC
EVA duration: 2 hours, 31 minutes, 40 seconds
Rocket: Saturn V SA-506
Spacecraft: Apollo CSM-107; Apollo LM-5
Orbital departure: July 22, 1969, 04:55:42 UTC
Members: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin

I learned something I never Knew. The Soviets crashed a spacecraft on the moon while the U.S. was walking around on it.

I was 7 and remember being glued to our B&W TV. That event had a significant impact on my life - I pursued an education and a career in the sciences.

The other significant impression was the whole world seemed to be celebrating the achievement. I’m not sure there has been a world “coming together” since. This event was a goal for human achievement and work to get there.
