The initial 1996 Instructor information meetings, held by OSBI & CLEET, are one source of the misinformation.

Instructors were told (yes, I was in attendance) that the certificates expired after 3 years.

As otherwise mentioned in this thread, there has been no legislative or administrative follow-up to make the certificates "sunset". There has been at least one legislative attempt to do so. It died in committee.

For many years, I've been telling my students that there is currently no "sunset".
Is this information still currently the same ?

No. After 3 years we instructors can toss our records, and can't issue another cert unless you take the course over. All you have to do is send it to the state within 3 years in an application and they keep it forever.

G. Firearms instructors shall be authorized to destroy all training documents and records upon expiration of the three-year time period.

Here, but occasionally There.
I had a concealed carry license that expired in 2001, would I have to take the class again to get a new license, or would the OSBI still have my old one on file? I took my class at the range that used to be located at May and Reno, it's no longer a range and I don't have a copy of my certificate. I would like to get legal again.

Check with the OSBI's SDA Permit department. Last I heard, after 3 years, one has to go through more of a process. The wife's and my permits expired about a month before we went to renew. We were told that as long as we were within the 3 year grace period, we only had to submit a renewal app.

Got that done.

If you haven't renewed within 3 years you start the whole process over again. You may begin the renewal process 90 days before expiration date. You also have a 90 day grace period to continue carrying after expiration date. When the 90 day grace period ends you are no longer legally allowed to carry.
