About this time of year, they begin to nest. Once they do, you'll see less and less of them until they have a hatch and the fledglings begin to fly. Then you'll have to beat them off with a stick. ;) Late June,, early July, they should get pretty active.

If you had serious wind during the storms, you could have had casualties. I know I had a couple that hid out on my back porch during the heaviest of rains about 8:00 pm one night.

We had a good year here, more babies than you could count, maybe cuz they move so fast, they were yellow / gold in color but since they don't hold still it's hard to say what shade of color, the adult are green for the most part..

This is the time of year they are most territorial. Spring, they seem to be sorting things out; maybe searching for a mate. Early/mid summer, they're nesting and fledging. Late summer, they've done their work for the year, and the newly fledged are getting their sea legs. Nothing better to do, so they fuss and fight. This is when they're most fun.

You aren't kidding! We have at least four of them that are very busy fussing most of the day for the feeder. I don't think any of them get more than about 2 seconds on it before someone else comes in and takes 'em out! They are awfully vocal, too.

This season has been very busy around the house. In addition to the humming birds, we have had two cardinal nests that we can watch from inside the house and 3 doe with their mama hanging around back. I think 1/2 our grocery expense goes to bird seed and corn for the deer!

The last few days have had lots of action. Constant fighting and chasing around the feeders.

Same here. I’ve got one tough bird that has laid claim to one of the feeders and nobody, including me, is allowed near it without a confrontation. He guards from the neighbors tree. I watched him chase two others that came in together out of the yard only to find another had landed on “his feeder”. All hell broke loose and that third bird was chased out of the yard. Fun to watch.

I'm having the same scenario. I's a hoot. He usually stakes out in a little tree in the yard about 10 yards away from two different feeders, both of which he lays claim to. Lately, he's been parking on top of one of the feeders.
I've seen him driven off by a pair that seems to work in concert. But, he'll gather himself and counterattack and drive them off. Funny.
