i have an AO Smith electric hot water tank. It is almost 2 years old. Before today it has been the best hot water tank I’ve ever had. It has a digital thermostat that will give error codes if there is a problem. I came in earlier after mowing the yard and when I went to get in the shower it was ice cold! I went out in the garage and my tank was off. So I checked the breaker and it was thrown. I had issues getting it back on. But once I did the tank came back on and I could hear one of the elements working. I got no errors and I could feel the water heating up when I touched the tpp valve. But after about 5 minutes I got an error code. I looked the code up and it says there has been a dry fire because of the tank not having enough water in it. Well that is impossible because the tank was full. I don’t know what it could be or why it is saying that about the lack of water. I tried to call customer support but they were closed. So I have to call tomorrow. Do you guys have any idea what it could be? Any help is much appreciated.

I have a different brand water heater with the electronic 'brain'. I've had enough problems with it (the company has warrantied the control card once, they warned it was one-and-done) that I've given Mrs instructions on how to reset should problems arise. It has a reset button.

Generally, pushing reset gets it working.

Are you on a well Tony? Build up of sediment could be causing a fault...I have to purge my heater tank every other year.
