I know pickups are cool but if you get a chance look at and drive a 2013+ Dodge caravan. Easy to get in and out of and with the seats down I can get a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood in the back of my 2013. Cost will be less than a pickup along with tires, upkeep and repairs. From a guy that owns two Caravans and a pickup.

Maybe if you want an auto and ac you could do an LS swap into the old Ford.
MoBoost here has a shop and could do it turn key and equip it with AC.
Or just get an auto stuck into it and some AC.
Those 300" sixes and other Ford inline 6's are excellent and if you keep clean oil and filters in them they will go 400,000+ miles

Just a thought ya know
I actually have an aftermarket AC that I intended to put in it (pulled out of my '65 Galaxie before I traded it off), but I'm just not up to messing with it. It has almost 300k miles on it and also needs brake work. The body's not pristine either, it's just an old shop & farm workhorse.

It does have air (a York style AC compressor) and truck tanks bolted to the frame so I could run an impact wrench. It was also my service truck when I had the mechanic/welding shop.

I bought a 2018 Colorado and had a lowering kit put on it. I didn't have a problem getting in and out of it but the the wife did (5ft tall). I even like it as it now sits about the same height as the older trucks did. I don't know why they jack a midsize non-4X4 truck up in the air and have the rear end sticking up higher than the front.
Looks like a ducks butt.

I may be selling my 2000 Ford F-150 XLT pretty soon since I no longer can safely drive. Bought new from factory with build sheets. Always pampered. Easy to get in an out of.

My brother had an F-150 from that generation (an '01, I think), and it was noticeably shorter than my '13 F-150.

You might also look at a CUV, like the Escape, Edge, or Flex. The more car-like entry with a more truck-like seating position might be more like what you're wanting. Prob'ly not the best choice for a load of manure, but lumber shouldn't be a problem.

The rear sticking up is all about gas mileage. They put the rake in it to make it more aero dynamic. You can get leveling kits pretty cheap but it will raise the front to match the rear.
It also has to do with how much the truck squats while loaded; if they run tail-high while empty, they stand a better chance of not blinding oncoming traffic when running with a load (either in the bed or on a trailer) after dark.
