Im toying with the idea of cutting down a SxS shotgun, just to have something a little easier to stow. Any recommendations for a gunsmith that does good, inexpensive work?
I've only ever had one barrel cut, and it was at R&S on Main Street in Moore. IIRC, they charged $30

For self defense purposes? Use federal flight control 00 Buck and it probably won’t matter at self defense distances. You still want to pattern it at 15 and 25 yards to see what you are dealing with.
Competing at the local skeet and trap shoot, you might be screwed.
I really only want it for HD, and then killing armadillos and snakes. I don’t use it for anything else, and I couldn’t be any worse at shooting skeet than I already am!
What Perplexed said. 870's are $289 at Wally world and Academy and there is a $50 Remington rebate. Buy a $100 Mossberg (Remington) 18.5 " barrel and sell the take-off barrel on eBay for $125.
