You can add it back in later, but you have to pay to catch up to that point plus a penalty. My gramps didn't want it because he didn't take pills at 65. When we finally convinced him he needed it at 86, it cost him two months SS pay up front, but it knocked his RX's from $900/mo to just over $120.
