NOT SATIRE: Missouri Councilwoman Takes Oath on Dr. Seuss Book
BY MEGAN FOX AUGUST 30, 2019
Continuing the infantilization of America and solidifying worldwide-held beliefs that Americans are stupid, a Missouri councilwoman, Kelli Dunaway (D), was sworn into office with her hand on a Dr. Suess book. "Just because we've done things the way we've always done them is no reason to keep doing them that way,” she told ABC News.

America hasn’t seen anything this ridiculous since RompHims for men. In the same way rompers infantilized men, using children’s books to swear in members of our legislatures similarly reduces our vaunted institutions into a clown show.

This was the scene last week at the STLCO government center. Democrats took back control of the council and @DunawayKelli was sworn in on a copy of “Oh the Places you’ll go” with her children❤️ so proud to be part of #TeamKelli

Hilariously, her little stunt got her accused of racism.

Another Facebook commenter pointed out criticism Dr. Seuss and his books faced in recent years over his portrayal of people of color. Dunaway ignored most of the disparaging comments, but thanked the woman who made her aware of the criticism.
At least we can be thankful for the little things, like the outrage crowd eating itself over hidden racism in The Cat in the Hat. Dunaway actually chose Oh! The Places You’ll Go! to take her oath of office. This book comes in handy if you’ve forgotten where your feet are or doubt you’re smart enough to breathe.

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

One can only hope that choosing to make a mockery out of the serious pledge to protect and defend the Constitution will be the catalyst to take her to a new place in the next election--the private sector. There is one good piece of advice in the book she picked for the profession she’s currently in. Should she ever meet Chuck Schumer or Nancy Pelosi, she will need to remember this passage from the famous story.

“And when you're alone there's a very good chance
you'll meet things that scare you right out of your pants
There are some, down the road between hither and yon,
that can scare you so much you won't want to go on.”

In the article :

HHHMMM so that is what they are doing with hand on a Bible and saying stuff.

I highly doubt it.
So many politicians trying to tear the Constitution apart..they have done no better than this lady.
I feel she did Nothing wrong. Why would you need to put your hand on any book really.

What does it really do? Is it black magic of some kind, will you fall dead if you lie when your hand is on the book.
Is it a cult thing? Is it a club thing to join you must do this and repeat these words.

BUNCH OF BS.
Get into office and do your job.
When you get hired at a regular job none of this tomfoolery is going on.
Guys in wigs made this put your hand on a book stuff up long ago and personally I think it is senseless.
But look at how they lived by the Bible back then ...Much different than how people live now.

Not to mention Separation of Church and State.
What is the Bible even supposedly doing in there.

Worm can was opened.

So, we should force people to swear on a bible?

If they must swear on a text of any kind, the only acceptable text I could see would be a copy of the Constitution...anything else is purely subjective.

The choice to me seems to be between adhering to a higher, proven moral code or to whatever is new and trendy in what might be called the current "Age of Aquarius"..... in which whatever seems good is what should be....e.g. "Coexist" bumper sticker

We can debate over what that moral code is or should be but most assuredly, it is not the sagacity of Dr. Seuss.

. The point is that this woman made a foolish error and the oath to do the job is not one to be taken lightly. It is a solemn and reckless thing to reject the seriousness of public office. And as for the hand on the Bible, it is the oath and tradition that at one time meant something that was more than mere words. The is why in a court of law that a witness is usually asked to place their hand on the Bible and solemnly swear that what they are going to say is the truth. Not just tradition or show but an oath before God-even if a person is an unbeliever. One doesn't have to be a believer to hold fast to the precepts of the Ten Commandments but if this nation did, it would be a far better nation. If only 1/3 of the citizens did it would be a better nation. As it is, a lot of people think that "if they don't get caught it's ok."
