Well it's time to talk about something other than gun politics.

Are there any fans of the 6.8SPC for an all around AR cartridge?

I'm trying to decide on a new upper and although I had researched the 6.8SPC a while ago I had recently decided to stick with 5.56/.223 because I lost access to some hunting land.

I don't shoot a lot, because there aren't any outdoor ranges near me and really don't care for indoor ranges, so I wouldn't be going through much ammo and I might get the occasional chance to shoot at a hog or deer but this rifle would mostly sit near the bedside as a HD weapon.

If a guy found a deal on a 6.8SPC upper would it make a good alternative to 5.56/.223 in your opinion?

I've got a 6.8 SPC upper, mags and ammo listed in the classifieds . . . :thumb:

If you decide to go that route.

I haven't taken it out and shot it or broke it in yet so I don't have any real data on it.

Your ad is what got me thinking about the 6.8SPC again.

I'd love to be able to shoot the 6.8 regularly. I think it would be a great all around, all purpose kind of round. Some good options for hunting ammo out there.

But plinking ammo availability and price would be the problem, for me.

If not a high volume shooter, I can't see a significant saving in ammo for the 5.56/.223. (Let's say 100 rounds per year)

I shoot an 6.8 spc and kill large numbers of hogs, and a few deer. With my experience of the .223/5.56, 6.8spc and .243win (bolt gun) on deer and hogs, I really feel that the 6.8spc is closer to the .243win in terminal performance on game than the .223/5.56 and staying in the AR 15 package.

i have an 18" 6.8 SPC for a deer rifle. That round has killed literally tons of hogs and deer. I just wish it was cheaper. I'm curious as to what the new 6.8 hybrid ammo is that Sig has come up with.
