Walmart stopping people from carrying within the store sounds like a real good idea. Now, those that are honest and legal and want to prevent harm to their families are prohibited from carrying in the store and the mentally ill, angry at life people don't care what the store policies are, they're going to carry inside and the results could be disastrous.

but, they aren't banning carry. Just open carry. Which, i'm guessing, was already a fraction of a fraction of a percentage of the armed population, anyway.
Or, you could simply say, we're back to the way it was before open carry was legalized in many states.
I think a retailer has every right to request that if someone wants to carry on prem it's perfectly fine but to please keep it concealed. That's a pretty good compromise. Let's be honest, the average OC Joe is carrying a $250 pistol in a $19 Fobus floppy rig and usually isn't a prime example of who we'd want representing us anyway. Sure some are but most are not.
What I do have a HUGE problem with is Walmart calling 5.56 short barreled ammunition as though it's more deadly than 300 Win Mag or won't work in my kiddos long barreled Remington 700 bolt action. That's virtue signaling and completely dishonest. Anything can be short barreled ammunition. They're trying to have it both ways in a lukewarm kind of way.
I personally think this is great. We finally see where they really stand and it's not with us. It's with China!

I know very, very few of you ever even drive through a Walmart parking lot, but from the bulk of the OC people I've seen in there, they are doing us a favor by removing so many poor examples of what we actually are. My favorites are the (usually) large ladies, with Hi-Points and well used nylon holsters. "She may not be the most interesting lady in the room, but....."
I thought the only people buying ammo at Walmart were the neck-beards that were stockpiling bricks of .22 lr for resale ...
I used to stop there on the way to the range. They're just a couple of blocks from me and was usually quick in and out. I don't remember the last time I went into our "gun shop" in town, didn't find them very helpful, but it's been years.

So, because these people don't have the income or knowledge (or both) to purchase a more expensive and (on here at least) more socially acceptable firearm and a means to carry, it's fine that they be denied the same right to protection that someone that can afford to go out and buy a $3-4K custom 1911 and carry it in a custom made, shark skin holster on a custom made elephant hide belt is allowed to excercise? It's amazing the amount of elitism that runs rampant among gun owners sometimes. My mom, now in her 70's and on a fixed income, deserves the exact same right to self protection as any one of the other people on this or any other gun forum.
And ya know what, sometimes concealed carry just plain isn't the most effective means of carry. How many on this forum alone are getting up in their years and are currently or could soon be disabled in some manner simply by the virtues of getting older. Are you no longer eligible to carry simply because if you had to be able to access your firearm in a self defense instance, you wouldn't be able to because if you used one hand to swipe your cover garment out of the way in order to allow your other hand access to your firearm, you'd then go tumbling because you'd lose your grip on your cane? The only real other option (other than open carry) for my mom would be to carry in her purse, and we all know that off body carry really isn't the best option. Especially when you are, by virtue of your advanced age, a likely target of a purse snatcher.
Is a Hi Point in an Uncle Mike's holster the best means of open carry? Not a chance. But isn't it also better to have SOMETHING (even if it's less than preferred) rather than nothing?
The big impact will be to the rural communities. Walmart has put the small, rural gun shops out of business and now they are going to stop selling ammo to those same communities.
From what I was told today, there isn't going to be a clearance of ammo. Just a sell down and no restock.

Second. For all of our kvetching, how many have actually called or written to Bentonville to express their displeasure with this decision. It might not do any good, but the fewer calls they get, the more right they think that they are.
