Walmart drop ships ammo to distribution chain. They do not really stock much
Few things wind up people more than WalMart. Everyone has a gripe, an opinion and a fix.

We could all pitch in and put it on a cap to be sold on OSA.
Absolutely a good idea, I buy all my guns local and ammo when it's reasonable.
My EDC round is 9mm Speer Gold Dot 124 Gr +P which isn't carried by Atwood's, Wal-Mart, Academy or regularly at most shops. SG has 50 round boxes of it for only $2 more than the 20 round boxes sell for at my LGS "when they have it". I'm not in business to make anyone comfortable, I'm in business to be able to retire in 12 years.
The way I see it is that SG being in Stillwater is just as local an anyone else. I only wish they had local pick up available so I could swing by on game days. Stillwater is a good example of a town that doesn't really have a LGS anymore. Just a few crappy pawn shops.. Wal-Mart, Academy, Atwood's or online are your only choices for ammo. It sucked when Stillwater Armory closed. I did buy from them.
Well.... some do and some don't. I still have some of the "Obama scares" in my head. I remember a few previous OSA vendors engaging in the price "gouging" as they say. I also remember some offering some lowers to OSA members at normal prices when the "market" was 5 fold.
If it was just a buck or two I would. But when its more than 4 bucks on ammo and anywhere from 60-100 bucks on firearms, well my money will go where the buys are. The one LGS I do business with is Crusader Tactical in BA. Bought my upper, some parts and they did my transfer for my lower I got from PSA. Good guys, but their ammo prices are steep. But they even told me that the ammo they have is pretty much for people who buy a pistol and want to take home some ammo with it. They just can't order in bulk enough to match Academy's prices.
Guys and gals, if you didn't read the whole CEO letter you need to. This isn't about a store just not selling ammo to look good, this is the largest retailer in America *advocating* a curtailment of the Bill of Rights.
"We do not sell military-style rifles, and we believe the reauthorization of the Assault Weapons ban should be debated to determine its effectiveness...I'm sending letters to the White House and the Congressional leadership that call for action on these common sense measures. "
I am not generally someone who boycotts, but this is a three orders of magnitude more significant than Dick's Sporting goods. If Wal-Mart bears significant financial losses in all sectors (not just ammo), we will likely be in good shape for another decade. If not, things will get worse.
I like Wal-Mart (which makes this sting) and I live in the country, with Wal-Mart the only store at all near my house which has fresh produce. Still, I will plan on buying everything elsewhere now. I will even patronize other stores if they are not 2nd Amendment friendly, because Wal-Mart has taken a stand and it matters much more. Starbucks, Target and others are asking people not to open carry, but it is Wal-Mart that is making a point about changes in law and now partnering with Bloomberg's Everytown for Gun Safety.
Wal-Mart leaders want to undermine your Bill of Rights.
This one is the one to fight.
Shop somewhere else.
