Man like many, I cut the cable on Cox years ago due to them becoming so outrageous. I still have Cox for Internet. But an antenna, a Roku , with Sling TV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime is just fine for our television entertainment needs. And a heck of a lot cheaper. Why do you have to have Cox? Until they get real and start to offer a more streamlined approach to their menu so people can pick and choose better and more economically, I think they will continue to see people cut their cable off in favor of the alternatives.

Bingo. That's exactly what I did minus the Amazon Prime.

Thanks for this thread. Reminded me my discounts expired this month with ATT uverse. On the phone now to threaten to cancel and go to cox.

Okay instead of $30 increase it went up $5 but I have lifetime loyalty pricing. As long as I don't drop it. I will not have to call back in. Well worth a 15 minute call.

It ain't just the cable providers. ESPN now has ESPN+ which is where a majority of the college games will be going and of course it is subscription only. Sunzabiteeches! Sling only has ESPN 1 and 2. There is always some company trying to perform a walletectomy on me.

I cut the cable 5 years ago. Amazing how the NEW technology is 1950's UHF crap you have to have rabbit ears for. SLING has saved my sanity giving me back my sports and Motortrend.

Funny, when I go out of town it's always to a hotel with DISH that has 600 channels and 580 of them are trying to sell you a product like the LIFELOCK channel and the AIRFRYER channel. Of course when you want to watch TV the most is watching the weather during a storm and in the year 2019 they still can't figure out how to maintain a signal through a cloud.

FYI if anyone is paying for a landline phone you can go to a VOIP setup like Ooma (what we have) and ditch your phone bill. There's also a way to DIY a VOIP
Lots of info here: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/07/how-to-set-up-voip-at-home/
Advantage of DIY is you don't pay the tax which saves the $5 we pay with the Ooma
Our internet and TV is ATT after 20+ years with Cox. Paying $150/mo now and have an over the air antenna for the TV in the den to occasionally watch the Grit channel.

Saving money has always been a quest so I read up & searched quite a bit about Free Sat viewing back in the day. Like the Fire Stick, Netflix, Amazon, et al of today, I just can't devote the time to stay up with it and like being able to pause live TV on the DVR too much to get rid of Direct TV.

Cox called me a month ago and offered to freeze my rate for two years and give me HBO free for two years. I took it but when it expires I will probably buy a ROKU TV and cut cable. Funny thing is every few years Cox offers me discounts or will freeze my rate plus some incentive. Last time before this offer, it was a $100 gift card instead of HBO plus freezing my rate.

They said it's a customer loyalty rate and go down a list calling customers. If you don't answer the phone they go to the next person with the offer. It pisses my sister-in-law off as she never gets these offers and has been with them much longer than I have.

I know this subject has been brought up 1000 times so feel free not to reply but I received my Cox bill yesterday and it went up another $16.00 which now puts me at $253.41 per month for "The Bundle" which is phone, internet and TV.

I know a few folks (3) that have switched to AT&t or some other dish type service and have begrudgingly switched back to Cox because they felt afterwards that the grass was not in fact greener on the other side.

Whining seems to have made me feel better so I suppose I'll just keep biting the bullet and writing checks till it gets to the point that I have to sit on the corner begging for handouts in order to pay for my Cox bill. :)

Just received my new Cox bill and guess what ?.......I got another $22.00 increase !!

@Glocktogo mentioned speaking to "customer retention" and @zipty6 said try walking into the local Cox facility to possibly get a better discount package in person than on the phone........not sure which to try first but I've got to do something.

Today is about over and I've got tomorrow booked solid pretty much all day with a home repair contractor but I'm not sending the check for $275.41 (due Oct. 19th) till I at least try something.

Please let us know how it goes. My introductory rate expires in a couple of months, so I need a little encouragement that it will work to call them, and if one way or the other gets better results.

My first choice would just be an online chat session, but I suspect they'll tell me I have to call in.

Both ATT and COX have retention specialists with the authority to reduce your cable rate. This is a known fact. I have talked to several of them out of the office not while they are working. They promote the fact they raise your cable bill on purpose to get your money out of your wallet and into theirs. People who call often get better "deals" such as movie channels etc. You only have to commit for another year or two then you can get all pissed off again.
