Any of you on here do this for a living or have a quality lead in the OK/Tulsa area that butcher and sell half or quarter cows? Looking to make a purchase or at least have it ready when we are in OK for the Christmas holidays. Thanks for the help.

Tonkawa Meat, 580-628-4550 is who I use. About an hour and a quarter from OKC to the North near I-35. Tell Rusty I sent ya if you go that way. They vacuum seal everything vs white butcher paper.

Can confirm. Tonkawa meat market puts out some good meats. The prime won't always look like prime, but it sure tastes like it. Good people, small business.

I use Walke Brothers in Claremore. It's vacuum sealed. Of course I provide the beef but I'm sure they can hook you up with the beef too. I've used Unrau in Inola but it was paper wrapped. They may do vacuum these days. I've also used Four States in Big Cabin which vacuum seals. They can usually squeeze a beef in to butcher when you're in a rush deal like one breaks a leg or something.

I'd be leery of using walke bros. I've heard some bad stories about them doing the ol' bait and switch. Another words, the cow you brought in may not be the one you receive. I heard of this happening with a hog.

Do not use Big Country in Enid. For every positive experience there's 20 negative ones. Every elk I know of that's been taken there came back rancid.

I’ve got a lead from a personal relationship down in Paul’s Valley area, who does processing outside of Ada. If you’re interested, shoot me a PM and I’ll link you up. We are about half way through our 2nd half of a cow.

I split a half with a buddy and used Unrau and picked it up in June. They still use paper and don’t offer vacuum sealed. They are good butchers otherwise.

I helped wrap my first 1/2 a cow.
The meat market used plastic wrap and then butcher paper that had wax or some other coating on one side.

I do all my deer the same way.. plastic wrap then Reynolds freezer paper.
I have got to the bottom of my deep freeze and pulled out 10 year old dated Deer burger and it was perfect.
But I remove all fat and I hear the fat is what makes bad flavors in old meat.

Can't confirm that though.
My deep freezers are NOT frost free and they are -10 to -20 °F
