I need some Geek Squad advice from you techie folks

I'm looking at getting a smart watch for my motorola Z smartphone so I can read text or answer calls via bluetooth link without activating the watch. However if I ever wanted to activate it as a second device, I want that option. I found one that looks very high quality but I've read that its a verizon watch for that network. So can I still ue all the function via bluetooth on my at&t smartphone? Heres the link

Depends on if it has a removable sim card. ATT will put in a universal sim if it has that option

But it may be like the apple watch and have a built in sim, while it can be unlocked and used on another network, the sim cant be changed.

did you even read the product specifics in the link? Do I need a sim just to connect with bluetooth and use it?

On the watches with their own SIM I believe AT&T will let you add it to your plan for like $10/month. My wife and daughters all have Apple watches without the SIM so I don't know if you can connect via bluetooth alone and not activate it or not.

You shouldn't need a SIM activated to connect via bluetooth as far as I know . . .

No, you wouldn't need a SIM card for a Bluetooth connection. AFAIK, the current-gen smartwatches all use eSIMs anyway, as they're a bit small for a SIM card tray.

I haven't looked at that particular product, but if it's Verizon only, you may not have the option of getting it added to your AT&T account later, as some Verizon-only (and Sprint-only) devices are CDMA, which can't interoperate with the networks used by AT&T, T-Mobile, and others. I would be surprised if that were the case for any cellular-capable smartwatch, which are normally LTE-enabled (which works on all of the major carriers' networks).

ETA: After looking at the Amazon page, they state that the watch is Verizon-only, so you'd need a Verizon plan to use its cellular capability. If you don't care about the cellular capability, I'd suggest saving some money and buying a smartwatch without the cellular radio. If you don't want to be locked into Verizon, you'll have to look for another watch.

FWIW, FakeSpot analyzes reviews to see how "real" they are (i.e, how many of the reviews are fakes). Here's what they have to say about the Amazon reviews of that watch:

I can't say that I've ever heard of Ticwatch myself, which isn't terribly shocking, as I don't keep up with anything Android, but if they were a major player, I would most likely have at least heard their name mentioned.

Also FWIW, people I respect trust the Wirecutter for reviews of technology (even if they did get bought by The NY Times). Here's what they're saying about Android smartwatches:

I ordered this one last November and love it. It does everything you'd want a watch to do including texts like you want. Doesn't require a Sim card and hooks up through Bluetooth
