The key to the whole thing is advertising. The site advertises itself to advertisers and it does so by showing unique hits by other people advertising stuff no matter who they are. It isn't an ideal situation, but it's the one we're faced with. Things will no doubt get better some day, but until they do every man must make himself brave. Caveat Emptor and whatnot.
You're a sleuth Iggy. No doubt about it. What else could it be?

I hereby nominate ignerntbend for official OSA Forum Sleuth!

I used to be on mdshooters dot com, a site with a huge membership that had a 50 post minimum before a member could post anything to the classifieds. The thinking was the same; only those who are contributing members should be able to use the site to sell stuff. The 50 post minimum also applied to the Water Cooler; without the 50 posts, new members couldn't even see the Water Cooler.

What actually happened was that those home non-FFL dealers would join and rack up 50 posts in two days with nonsensical replies to everything and anything. One word posts in reply to serious discussions such as "yes", or "I agree" or the most common reply with no words and only emojis were the clue that the new guy was only there to sell stuff.

That above is exactly what will happen.
I do not get my panties in a wad because some people do not contribute to the good of the forum.

If you really want to get angry think about this.
This forum is called Oklahoma Shooters.

I joined because I wanted to contribute to shooting and reloading and learn from those sections also.
What I find out is most forums no matter what they are called have a general section and that section gets filled with political talk.
And Timmy or Tonya or Trump or Barack did this and made me mad.
That used to bother me. I did not join a shooters forum or a car forum to read that junk.

I just stay far away from that and look at the sections I wish to look at.
People will use the system to their benefit. No matter what the system is. It can't be avoided unless you eliminate that person.

I’ve noticed the changes since the site changed hands and I don’t care for it either. I added this to my last sale for a firearm. Feel free to do a copy and paste or modify if you’d like to do the same to anything you sell.

These requirements prior to sale are mine and do not reflect the policy or support of OSA. Any item I sell is mine and I reserve the right to sell or refuse to sell to anyone I choose.

You must be an established member of this site before I will consider any firearms sales. Meaning, I will be looking at the statistics on your username. If I check the discussion log on your profile and I find that all you use this site for is to come here to buy and sell guns, then the answer is no. This is NOT Gunbroker. If you can’t come in and add to the discussions and become a member of our family, the answer is no. Most of the members on this site have been here a long time and many of us know each other. Both on the site and personally. Because of reasons beyond our control, the requirements for posting ads on this site have changed from what they once were. That does not mean my requirements have changed.

Until I’m told otherwise by moderators or an admin, this is the way it will be for any firearms I may choose to sell.

I’m also going to add that if you’re willing to commit to a sale, you need to post “I’ll take it” in response to the ad where everyone can see it. Or, I can post “item sold pending meet” or something to that effect. There are times when a price can be negotiated by PM, but when the price is agreed upon there needs to be notification that the item has been sold and no longer for sale. And, as in the past practice that has drifted away, the first time stamp (if there are multiple persons interested in the purchase) of the person who says “I’ll take it” is the person who gets the item.

also,

You must also be legally able to buy and possess a firearm as required by STATE and FEDERAL LAW. You must be a citizen of the state of Oklahoma. You may or may not be asked for proof.

One word posts in reply to serious discussions such as "yes", or "I agree" or the most common reply with no words and only emojis were the clue that the new guy was only there to sell stuff.

The key to controlling this, to at least some degree, is to require a minimum number of posts, say 25 or so, and that they be of a SUBSTANTIAL and CONTRIBUTING nature. Further, a person then requests access to the restricted areas of the site, in my mind, both the Classifieds and the Boiler Room. Only then, after review and approval, would they be granted such access. But the site owner has his reasons for making it more open. I won’t speak for him; perhaps he will join in, if he feels it necessary. In the meantime, just use the classifieds how ever you want, buy, trade, and sell legally and on your own terms, and above all, please do be a participating member. Despite any other factors which we may or may not be able to influence is how we behave as individual members; a forum of any kind is what the active members make of it. I want OSA to be a community of like minded people who legally own and enjoy using firearms for hunting, recreation and self defense purposes. Hence, the Pay it Forward area...it is specifically for contributing members.

As said before, caveat emptor.

These are not the firearms you're looking for.

I've only made one purchase from this forum. It was from an established member and we conversed prior to the sale. I feel that the buyer should be the one doing the due diligence. There's been a couple other items that have tempted me to purchase, but the statistics of the seller didn't meet my comfort level.....so I passed. Have I missed out on some great items? Probably so. Like a great many things, the items for sale on this forum are in the category of "wants", not "needs".

I am a relative newcomer to this forum. However, I've made the effort to actually meet in person some of the forum members, and I'm certainly glad of it. Also, the "Pay it Forward" section is an area that should give an indication of the character of forum members. Carry on.

There are a lot of great and witty members on here. I've done some deals and met a lot of great guys on here. Some people are not retired and work all the time. While i enjoy the knowledge you share, AS WELL AS THE BANTER, I don't have a lot of time to post and reply to things. I'm sure there are a lot of others in that same boat. Just some food for thought.

I don't care if someone has zero posts if they're selling something at a reasonable price and actually show up. Yes, I've noticed a degradation in content but I personally feel this is due to Facebook mentality creeping into every aspect of our lives. Too much butt hurt as an entire nation going on these days. We've been in a time of meh for guns lately. That could change overnight. Still it's hard to complain when you consider the price of admission.. :twocents:
