We use Direct TV for our country home and XM radio in our vehicles.
Wife calls them at subscription renewal time threatening to leave them if they don’t make it right. By the time she is done with at least two levels of phone operators with no authority, they are left in a fetal position within their cubicles, mumbling something about help me....help me, and a supervisor gets on the line.
We always get introductory deals when she is done.
One called her bluff when she said to cancel if they didn’t meet her price. So we canceled. Another person called us back two days later and asked what could they do to earn our business.
He was also left in a fetal position but agreed to the cheapest introduction rate once more.
This girl loves the art of the deal!

F all those multimedia companies. We left DirectTV a decade ago, went to SlingTV on the Roku for a while and finally decided even that was mostly garbage we were tired of paying for. Ditched Sling and now just have an antenna. There are so many other things I’d rather spend my money on then TV. We have a 3 year old who started to act like cartoons on PBS was high end crack, so we cut back on TV even more. Try to turn on the classical radio station and just open a book while she plays or colors. I don’t want her growing up thinking Tv is the only thing to spend her free time doing.

Off my soapbox. Hate those companies.

I bought a Netgear Nighthawk router thinking I'd increase speed on the computer and periodically it sort of messes up-goes slow and i reset it and the modem and lose wifi. I'm going to look for another router soon but can't figure out which one would work for me. It's confusing there are so many on the market.

I got a Nighthawk and we run literally dozens of devices connected to it including 2 streaming Xboxs - this has been the fastest and most stable router I've ever owned.

Nighthawk ax12 and nighthawk modem...runs 5 teenagers and two adults worth of streaming with no hiccups. No need for cox tv, it’s all old shows a way.

Just received my new Cox bill and guess what ?.......I got another $22.00 increase !!

@Glocktogo mentioned speaking to "customer retention" and @zipty6 said try walking into the local Cox facility to possibly get a better discount package in person than on the phone........not sure which to try first but I've got to do something.

Today is about over and I've got tomorrow booked solid pretty much all day with a home repair contractor but I'm not sending the check for $275.41 (due Oct. 19th) till I at least try something.

This is my surprised face. But yes, call in and say you want to cancel your services. They will transfer you to a retention specialist. They will get you a new deal to keep your service.

Honestly, and this is coming from a cable tech, I would ditch the tv side and just use the internet for streaming with an antenna for local channels. If I didn't work for Cox I wouldn't pay for any tv. The few shows I do watch are on local channels and if I want a DVR there are plenty of PVR's out there or I could build one out of an old computer and a tv tuner card. I have a feeling in the next decade most cable companies will ditch the tv side and focus just on internet.
