Is it really necessary to have blood drawn every year?

Every year I go to the doctor to get my yearly prescriptions.Every year the doctor has my blood drawn.I got my bill and noticed that for nurse to draw the blood and the lab to test it they charge my insurance $500.00.The doctor I had in Tulsa for several years never had my blood drawn more than once in 5 years.

What they charge your insurance company and what that company pays for the service or procedure can be two very different amounts. And I’m not a medical professional of any kind, but I highly recommend that everyone gets basic blood tests done on an annual basis - a lot can change in a year. Plus that establishes baseline readings, making it easier to spot changes in the future.

It LARGELY depends on your health history and family health history. If you're on regular, indefinite prescriptions, there's likely a good reason to have a blood screening each year (to check the efficacy of the meds, or possible adverse effects).

Due to my poor family health history, I've had blood screenings (and more, but don't want to share TMI) annually since I was in my early 20s.

Really nothing wrong with me except for bph.I will be sixty in a few days and most men my age have bph or a (slightly enlarged prostate). I have probably had my blood drawn 8 or 9 times in the last 15 years and each time it is good. One of the times a nurse really messed me up when drawing blood and my arm was bruised for a couple of weeks and there was some nerve damage for quite a while.
