And that is exactly what I did. Between the wife and me, 5 checks hit the account like clockwork. No more suits; no more ties. No more dry cleaning bills. No more bean counters. No more boss. No more watch.

Ahhhhhhh...life is good.

Actually, I retired once and then went to work for a government agency and while working banked the retirement and then retired from the government and don't have debt int he world. I pay off the credit cards every month (so far) and the house is paid off, 2018 car paid off. The secret is to live within or below one's income.

I paid my last debt when I sold my property in Tuttle 3 years ago. Paid cash for the new house and used 2014 King Ranch truck. I like not having any debt.

Here, but occasionally There.
Retired 5 years ago on April Fools day at 62. Went into HR, told them I was retiring today and walked out. I heard them laughing when I walked out. They realized I was serious when I started clearing out the desk and carrying boxes down to the parking lot.
Life has been busier since retiring than before. Everyone knows you have time on your hands and my farmer/rancher buddies don't have an issue about asking for some of that time.
Sure, I could say no, but I enjoy it. We are spending about 5-6 months a year traveling in the RV which is a pretty lazy lifestyle, but totally enjoyable. Can't think of a time that I've enjoyed more than our time we spend in the RV. We got lucky and fell into a group of road buddies, some of which live in their RV full time. We all meet up at the different locations if possible, and have our travels scheduled out for a year from now. All Gun owners, all Trumpers, most fishermen/women so we spend our days in the outdoors at the local ranges or on some fine trout streams/rivers. Happy hour starts at 5:00 :sunbath: Everyone brings a dish of something to eat/snack on, and the discussion of the day commences. Some from Tx, some from Chicago, and so on. It's a great lifestyle!

You know, I'd consider joining your group. However, I don't like fishing and I'm not that crazy about eating it either.

Fishing bores me...

...I need to be doing something, which is why photography pleases me so much. Especially so when in the outdoors.

I hate the job and I will draw my pension and work somewhere else, easily increasing my income by an estimated $50k a year. All that will go into my retirement mutual funds to play catch up after having to start over on that after my divorce. And I dont have a honey so no to do list but my own lol I'm only 50 but have a few new disabilitiesso I may end up designing highways again at a consulting firm. Already got one asking me to join their team. Also considering buying a bar. lol

I dont have any friends left here, they all retired already lol
Now I'm surrounded by a bunch of kids still wet behind the ears wearing them stupid tight legged jeans n man buns n beards like a caveman.

Don't buy a bar unless you want to be married to it. :D

Worst part for me retiring earlier that I had originally intended has been the cost of medical insurance and the increases. Mine is going up $130 a month starting in January. I'm not eligible for Medicare for 3 1/2 more years.
Having the house and both vehicles paid for was the only way I could go ahead and retire after 41 years with one employer.

Same for my younger wife I told to retire early so we could travel. She has several years ahead of her under obamacare. $6000.00 deductible policy for around $900 a month. We've been debt free for many, many years so that sure helps.
Just kept making that house payment and car payments, but they went to our investment accounts vs some lender after we paid them off. Made a nice retirement account along with the 401K's.
