Has anyone ever had trouble with factory Glock mags in the model 20? I took mine out today and the magazine fell out twice when I was shooting it. I made sure it clicked when I locked it in and it still fell out. I bought the gun used and it did fine the first time out shooting it, so I tried a brand new factory Glock Mag in it today so the only thing I can think of is the mag is no good. I didn't bring the original one with me today to try though.

Is it an Gen 3 Ambidextrous version (although I’ve only seen them in G21s?
Or a Gen 4 that has had the magazine release reversed for a left handed shooter?

Did the new mag work correctly?

It could be a weak or bent magazine release spring.
The magazine release spring could be installed wrong. It should be inside a notch on the mag release button.
Check the magazine release button inside the mag well. See if the edges are squared or rounded off?
Check your magazines where the button makes contact with the mag release button. Square or rounded?

I think its a Gen 2, I'll just have to go shoot it again with the other mags I have. There all 15 round, there heavy when there loaded all the way up but I would've thought Glock would've made the mag release strong enough to hold the weight. Gives you a bad feeling for a gun I thought about using for defense dumps the mag twice after a few shots!

I think I figured it out, 2 of the mags have a recess cut in them on both sides for it to lock on. The one that fell out only has the recess on the right side so I guess this gun doesn't like the mags with one recess. I didn't know there were 2 different styles of mags for a Glock.

A picture of the gun would help.

The gun will only use the left side cutout if it is a Gen 4 configured for a left handed shooter to use their strong hand thumb on the release.

There is a very far outside possibility of the gun being an odd variation with ambidextrous release. I’m not aware of a 20 in this configuration. But a 21 frame was and will fit a 20 slide. The 21SF referred to on this picture is not taking about the More common short frame. It is referring to the ambidextrous version (special forces maybe) that has a button that can be pushed from both sides. Not a reversible button like the Gen 4.

Reread my answer above and Fyrtwuck’s answer (the most likely answer) Otherwise, I’m afraid you are going to be disappointed.

The Glock 21 you were referring to having problems with the mags is a Gen-3 21SF. There were two different versions. One with a pictinny rail and one with a Glock rail.

The one with the Glock rail was the one that had the problems with the magazines. (I have one). You were correct that as long as you left the mag release oriented for a right handed shooter there were no problems. It wasn’t a dual sided mag release. You have to remove it and switch it to the other side.

Glock received a lot of complaints from left handed shooters and I don’t know what they did to resolve the problem.

This is the version I am talking about in this video. It is a repair video, but he is testing it starting about 6:15. You can see him test it from both directions.

Now I’m wondering what version you have. There must be another was not aware of.
I though I saw references to a G17 version somewhere. I know I have magazines with the same window cut out. The guns may have never made it to production with all the issues the 21SF had.
