Interesting situation.

can one of the restaurants within the park ban carry within the business? Do they enjoy less rights because it’s within a public park (even as a private business)?

I believe they’re operated by the park/authority/gathering place and aren’t separate or sublet out. But I’m not 100% on that one. I’ve only been in the coffee shop ice cream place personally.

It was my understanding that you can't go into a place where the majority of sales is alcohol? Rather the primary purpose of Oktoberfest is alcohol sales?

TITLE 21 § 1272.1 Pg 22
I guess I was mistaken. I thought they changed it up but it seems they just basically added restaurants to be "allowed" as best as I can recall. I don't frequent bars and on the off occasion I do, I drink a beer or two, so the gun stays in the lock box in the truck.

Here's the pertinent text for those that want to see.

Provided however, a person possessing a valid handgun license pursuant to the provisions of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act may carry the concealed or unconcealed handgun into any restaurant or other establishment licensed to dispense low-point beer or alcoholic beverages where the sale of low-point beer or alcoholic beverages does not constitute the primary purpose of the business

This incident where Don posted about them not letting him in while carrying is precisely why I did NOT take the family to Oktoberfest this last weekend. We spent the weekend in Tulsa doing fun stuff - took The Boy climbing the rock wall place, went to The Main Event for games and such, Xtreme Racing in B.A., - but I didn't want to go unarmed and didn't want to risk it. Fighting for parking at The Gathering Place, sitting in line just to get in the lot, etc., then going to all the trouble and getting turned away over something stupid like that?

So I took my family elsewhere and spent a darn good amount of money over the weekend with other companies and vendors. I woulda prolly spent somewhere between $150-200 at Oktoberfest, I figured... so I considered making a donation in that amount to OK2A. Haven't yet, though.

I'm just flabbergasted by the whole situation, honestly.

Well, will have to see what happens next year with the law changes that go into effect on the 1st. But, and this is just my own opinion, I would rather not see carrying during Oktoberfest. Too many people being stupid without mixing firearms in there. Most of the people in here I would trust to not drink while carrying (or at least drink very little), but its like the saying goes "The person is smart, but people are stupid".

Been to the gathering place twice in the last 30 days. Once on a Friday evening and once on a Wednesday evening. Zero fighting for a parking place, just pull in and park, walk across the street and your in. No guards, no security, no gates. I CC both times. Your kids would love it, trust me. Take their skateboards, and skooters if they have them. The tracks are impressive.

I agree during regular times, but during Oktoberfest, I'd have to think I'd be fighting crowds.

Oktoberfest isn't at The Gather Place; it's at River West Festival Park on the other bank. Parking at The Gathering Place hasn't been an issue for quite a while now.

I admit I've never driven to Oktoberfest; I've always taken a shuttle (that's 2 miles from my house) and been dropped off right at the gate. Parking directly there would be crappy, but the shuttle makes it super easy.
