What did the VW beetles use back in the day? They were air cooled, no heated seat.
Didn't they use a heat exchanger of some sort that was heated up by the exhaust manifold or something? It's been so long I don't remember.

Yes they blew air over the exhaust manifold. Called them heater boxes.

When was that? I had one that was a '69 model (can't be sure), and it got cold as all get out if stuck in traffic.

Somebody told me they had a gasoline-fueled heater for their VW, but my recollection is that they said it was a rare option, as it was just a bit dangerous. Dunno if it was factory or a JC Whitney special, though.

LOL, JC Whitney sold alternative accessories that would get them sued out of business now. My old 56 ford Crown Victoria got a leak in the heater core, so I bought one of the JC Whitney bolt on heaters that you drilled holes in the firewall ran the hoses to, and then wired in the 12v fan. Passenger didn't have much leg room and it was really warm for them.
The things you do when a kid and poor. :D
