I've used it in the past (dark chocolate) --- kinda 'smooths' the flavor a bit. Even tried a batch with some cinnamon.....couldn't tell much difference.
Beer in chili is pretty good.
Ya gotta try a bowl with about a tablespoon of beer in it and bring it back to boiling to remove the alcohol. You might like it.
We used beer in the chili to come in second place at the Oklahoma State Championship BBQ and Chili cook off in the people's choice awards several years ago. (which paid nothing) Of course the real secret ingredient was that it was venison chile and not beef.
I use dark chocolate and cinnamon. Everyone in the house prefers it that way.

Hmmm...a nice stout might add some interesting flavor.
Let's see...I like black coffee, dark chocolate, cinnamon, stout beer...there may not be any room left in the pot for the chili.
