I'll be using this one, 6.5 Grendel.

I plan on using an AR-15 with a 1x prism scope and Hornady Black 75gr BTHP ammo.

My other option is my 1976 Marlin Glenfield 30-30, that I bought new when I was fifteen, using Remington soft point ammo. If I have the chance to sight it in before I go hunting, I might even mount the original 4x scope and try that out.

So old vs new.

I might just take both and see what I happen to use if I get to take a shot.

Since you posted a thread seeking advice on getting back into deer hunting, I’ll offer mine here. Pick the gun you’re the most confident with and go hunting. Don’t take both to the stand.

I’m not opposed to using a 223 for deer at all, but my recommendation would be to use the 30-30.

Main rifle will be my custom 7mm-08 built on an MRC 1999 with a Krieger #2 contour barrel in a McMillan Winchester Classic stock. I have a lot of confidence in that rifle.

I hope your confidence isnt misguided...whoever built that rifle put the bolt handle on the wrong side!
