There was a lot of rustling in the woods and my dog takes off, runs around for a bit then comes back with his hackles up. I hear more rustling and he runs off again. I assume it’s deer. Then I see him interacting with two large dogs. He comes back in the yard and they follow him. Two large coyotes not 15 yards away. I’ve heard of coyotes baiting dogs and killing them. Is this a real thing? I don’t think he knows they aren’t regular dogs.

I’m mostly concerned because of how comfortable he seems to be with them. I don’t think they would go at him one on one. These things are bigger than I thought though. I’ve seen him run into one in the woods and the coyote just took off. This time it seemed like they were just hanging out sniffing around together.

If they just sniffed around him in the woods, they took off because you were around. They're scared of you, and they know that he's with you.

Yes, they’re very skittish. Took off as soon as I made some noise. Just watched a ton of videos of coyotes playing with dogs. Seems experts say it can be all fine unless the coyotes are hungry. Then, they may eat anything. There seems to be more of them than ever.

I have had a dog come home with his guts hanging out his ass with 2 coyotes right behind. Killed both and then put my dog down. When I lived in the country I always had 2 dogs at least as large as the average coyote so they could have each other's back.
