Must be an older power plant.

Modern HELE coal plants are 37%-44% efficient.
NG plants can exceed 50% efficiency.
Both are far above the 15%-20% efficiency of ICE automobiles.

How long does a refinery continue to run without pumps, compressors, and controls when the grid goes down?
Seconds or minutes?

Actually one of the most efficient in the fleet. OGE didn’t have an issue putting money into the most modern controls system in the world. We installed serial number 1 & 2.
9000hp electric motors running 24/7 aren’t cheap to run as well as the associated pump motors, fan motors, lighting, pollution controls and so on.

You don’t need a failure in the grid to take an entire refinery off line instantly. But that’s another thread.

In 2018 OG&E sold electricity to the public for 7.3 cents per KWH, and still made a profit.
You can't do that with small internal combustion engines.

You don't really get Economy of scale do you?

This reminds me, I most likely need to first in first out a couple of the 10 five gallon gas cans I keep on hand for mowing and the boat in the summer, generator in the winter in case my and the local gas stations power is out if we have a storm. Most likely need to hit my starter batteries with a little touch up charge also.

I don't remember what year it was, but during a sudden downpour, the sheer amount of rainfall cooled the steam generators off so much they stopped producing steam at the Ponca City refinery. Nobody knew what the hell was happening in that moment. Not sure if it was a precaution, or the same happening at the OG&E plant, but power was cut off and the entire refinery was instantly shut down along with a bulk of PC. Took them an entire shift to get it back up systematically. It was a crazy day.

This new Tesla vehicle is not a pickup truck. It is an entirely new category...a likely game changer.
If they can deliver the quality they promise at the prices they promise, it is going to restructure the entire vehicle industry.
Whether you like the looks of it or not, appreciate the uniqueness.

Reminds me of the oddness of the first original dodge charger "fastback" I saw in what, about 1965. My GF and I caught a time when we could at least check out what the functionality might be parked somewhere off the beaten path with her checking out the back on a showroom floor. (she said she did not leave footprints on the headliner) I later purchased a Chevelle station wagon I put a stout 327 with a 4 speed in. You guys keep my mind wandering. I have yet to see a picture of what size and what the "Pickup" bed looks like on this electric thing.

Well, I did about the same thing but it wasn't rain. We(OG&E) had a co-generation gas fired turbine that used the exhaust to generate steam for the refinery and supplied electrical power to the refinery as a backup to their own generators.
In the process of doing a quality performance audit on the inverter in the control room that used battery banks converted to AC for control power, one of the selector switches was faulty(not known at the time) so when doing the test, I used that switch as part of the test and all hell broke loose.
The cogen unit tripped offline to no control power, causing steam pressure to fall and in a cascading series of events, the entire refinery went black. Took about 3 minutes to shut down which at one time was the 10th largest refinery in the country, and it was all on me.
There were some mad refinery operators that ran over to our control room and wanted to know WTF. At the time had no clue but later on when doing an offline test of the inverter we found the faulty switch. Mechanical make-before-break switch that just physically failed.
Buddy of mine that is a unit operator there told me it cost them many millions of dollars to get back on line.

I saw a pic of it actually used as a pickup in a news feed this morning. There was a 4 wheeler parked in the bed. The tailgate was down and was actually used as the loading ramp by internal parts of the tailgate coming out in an accordian style to create the loading ramp. I'm betting with all the hoopla over fossil pickups tailgates this becomes an option in the future.
