A good question to ask in case it hasn’t been already is this one, if you had only one handgun to rely on for the rest of your life and your two choices were Glocks or 1911s which would it be? Mine would a Glock 17 or 19 simply for the reliability and interchangeable parts, mags, etc. I love the looks and feel of a 1911 and I shoot them more accurately.

With your background and skills, I have a feeling you’ve turned yours into a tack driver. What have you done to it?
Dawson ledge fiber optic Sights, cut off the bottom of the large beavertail grip, that’s about it..background and skills are perishable, and I never shoot anymore.

I had a case head separation on my Glock 34 at the USPSA Production Nationals in Tulsa. Blew the mag out, broke the mag release, and the extractor is still somewhere orbiting the earth. New safety and mag release and a few small brass bits plucked out of my left thumb it was good to go. My trigger jerk the rest of the match was a bit iffy but Sh— happens.

I don’t hate Glocks; I just love 1911’s

I have to admit that if I had to chose between two unfired factory guns, one a Glock the other a 1911, I’d pick the Glock.

I don’t trust brand new 1911’s until I get at least 500 rounds through them. Even my Valor had some minor bugs that needed to be worked out (slide stop lug protruded too far into the magwell and would lock the slide back prematurely).

When I get a 1911 that’s proven reliable, with a crisp trigger, front strap checkering, tritium sights, etc, I’ll take that over any other handgun.

I do not hate Glocks, I just do not like them, but I do admit to enjoying pulling the chain of the Glock fans.
Seriously they just do not feel right in my hand maybe because I grew up on SA revolvers only. Kind of like those weird revolvers with the lowered barrel and odd grip angle. Just does not feel right.

When I was shooting USPSA I was never very good as several people can attest. I got on the gear train and had super nice STI’s, Dan Wesson, you name it. When I finally got off the train I went back to a Glock 34. Pick up a mag out of the dust, tap it against my pants leg, and reload. Look at the other guys with their mag brushes, oiling slides between stages, hoping their $140 mags would feed. My scores were about the same and I spent more time shooting and less time fiddling. The guns I had were pretty, I’ll give them that, but for a dependable shooter, Glock is it for me. But then again, I’ve always been more of a Mary Ann versus a Ginger kind of guy.
