I competed in IHMSA 200 yd. centerfire handgun matches for well over 20 yrs. and was the Match Dir. for four years at Tri-City Gun Club in Norman......2000-2004.

At one time I had four 15" center grip scoped Remington bolt action XP-100's, nine 14" scoped Contender barrels and four scoped 15" Encore barrels in different calibers......I started seriously thinning the herd a couple of years ago but kept one Encore barrel in 6.5x55 Swede and one XP100 chambered in 7mmBR.

Anyone else onboard fired or own XP100's, Encores or Contenders ?

I have a contender (the original) Bought it to turkey hunt with. Took it out 1 time hunting and haven't used since. Have several barrels, 223,45/410, 30 Herret, 357, 22, several others but can't remember calibers. My brother has a XP but don't remember the caliber. All bought back in late '70s

DRC458 where are you?

I'm here, but I ain't got no pictures! Didn't take many photos back then and, alas, don't have them any more. Shot metallic silhouettes (IHMSA) back in the late 70's/early 80's. All open sights; no optics allowed. My wheelgun was a S&W 8 3/8" Model 29 for revo, Contender .30 Herrett for Production, and a custom XP-100 in full length .308 for Unlimited. I wish I had them all back!

Brings back a lot of memories watching my dad shoot his 30 Herrett Contender. He had a Wichita SS as well, was my favorite to shoot. I enjoy my Lone Eagle for hunting, 7mm-08 would have been a little much for an afternoon of steel imo.

Also a 70's era IHMSA shooter. Only Gun I have left from that era is an XP 100 that is barreled in 7TCU. Work drew me away for any areas where Silhouettes were shot so that gun never got finished out with iron. Scoped it and used it as a hunting gun and took a number coyotes and an Antelope with it as well as a bunch of Montana Gophers. Funny this topic should come. I was unpacking the box of hand guns I moved down from Montana two years ago and right on top was the XP. My wife had never seen such a gun and want to shoot it. I think I have some dies some where

The Contender I had wore .22LR, 7 TCU and 30 Herrett barrels for silhouettes The 7TCU killed a bear. The 30 Herrett killed several Oregon Blacktails.

I shoot a borrowed Ruger 10 inch 44 Mag in revolver. In the late 70's in the State championships I shot that gun so well that I had to take an automatic bump up to the next class, and still took 2nd place in the higher class. I could have won the lower class, but would have had purposely miss to do it.

While unpacking a box the other day i found my old blast shield made from a bowling alley curtain. Also in that box was my old score cards, member #3041

Those were the days..

Original Contender. Some call them G1.
Several barrels. My daughter uses a contender frame set up as a youth carbine and uses a 7-30 Waters barrel for deer.
Always on the hunt for more barrels.

Have a G2 with a 10" 44mag barrel. Love that thing. Haven't ever scoped it. Used to have a scoped 7mm-08 Encore pistol. Still amazed at how accurate that thing was. I don't even try to tell folks anymore just how accurate it was. They doubt my words.
