Man one of the hardest things for me about being a police officer is writing citations to nice, productive, hard working people. I try to cut a lot of breaks. I always write for no insurance, 25 over on the highway, 15 over in town, totally blowing stop lights or stop signs, and tags over about 4 months out.
I can’t see writing someone for going through a parking lot. Theoretically I could see an officer stopping someone for that if it was a real maggot wagon though.

Enid has similar law. I was stopped years ago when I was 16 or 17 when I missed my turn. Dad made me go to court. It got brought up about a U-turn was perfectly legal but turning around in parking lot wasn’t. Judge asked if turning around in the parking lot was safer, which I replied “yes”. Judge dismissed the ticket.

If everyone took those parking lot tickets to court and simply said “I intended to park and go into the store but changed my mind” the tickets would be thrown out and the city would eventually stop writing them...as long as folks keep paying them, they’ll keep writing them because our PDs are increasingly being incentivized to generate revenue.

Here, but occasionally There.
Well I'm a noob and don't know how to pick up on stuff. Still learning. I also should've listed nurses, teachers and anyone who works their a$$ off digging ditches, plumbing, driving a truck, etc. Actually, everyone should be respected until enough is learned about them to make any different decision. This post is making me sound like a dork.... which I am.

Just a little tip for you, since you are new. Just about anything posted by Iggy needs to be scrutinized very carefully. In a sense, he is a known troll - - a good guy, but one that loves "yanking on people's chains." There are a couple of others here that are similar, but since they haven't chimed in, I'll let you learn who they are by what you read from them.

Aren't parking lots private property? How can a city make laws about private property when the activity (driving) is not ipso facto illegal?

Just like passing a city ordinance that you can't park your vehicle on your own lawn and citing you for it? I got a notice from the city for parking my truck on the side of my house in the grass rather than on the driveway.

Probably up on cinder blocks with weeds growing up all around it.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

I had an issue like that for parking next to the driveway as playing car roulette all the time was way beyond annoying. One gravel pad later and no more notices...
(Also helped that I got the gravel for free at the time.)
