yet, mom smoked for 40 years, quit for 25 or so and just no developed lung cancer.

And yet the lungs are supposed to start healing within days of you quitting smoking. I firmly believe that after that long, it was not the smoking that caused it. While she smoked or even 5 years after, but not 25 years.

There are a lot of different things that can cause lung cancer. Getting it while you smoke or shortly there after, it was probably smoking related. Years after, start wondering about other causes. Does she live in an area with lots of air pollution, lots of dust, work somewhere that she might be breathing chemical vapors? Around someone that still smokes tobacco or pot?

Nope and the cancer isnt inside the lungs, its outside but still classified as a small cell carcinoma "lung" cancer.
She likes GC so maybe there is something to that LOL

Hmmm, that does not sound like smoking related cancer at all. Every one I have ever heard of started inside the lung. May be something I have not heard of though.

Glad your mom has better taste in food than you. :P :P :P

Lung cancer doesnt have to come from inside the lung.
And better taste in food is one thing she doesnt have on me.
I passed on a free meal at GC not long ago lol

You poor, poor man! Someday when I get rich instead of just good looking we can go to CG and I will teach you how to eat healthy there. It is not great food, but it is good if you stay away from their Mexican food and pizza. You can build any dinner you want. Vegetarian, no problem. KETO, no problem. A well rounded meal, again no problem. They give you a ton of choices and you decide what you eat. Want a piece of carrot or Boston cream pie cake, not a problem. The pieces are large enough to satisfy but small enough not to overload.

Lung cancer in non-smokers can be caused by exposure to radon, secondhand smoke, air pollution, or other factors. Workplace exposures to asbestos, diesel exhaust or certain other chemicals can also cause lung cancers in some people who don’t smoke.

Smoking contributes to several types of cancer. My dad's started in the bladder for instance, which is common.

Both my parents were heavy smokers and I buried them after a bout of lung cancer each.
Probably be burying my sister before long if she doesn’t quit. Has to remove the oxygen hose before taking another drag off the cig.
For those like me that are ex smokers even from a long time ago, the VA at least is increasing surveillance on the lungs.
Apparently even though an ex smoker from a long time ago the risk factor to get lung cancer related to smoking is much higher than those that never smoked tobacco.
I haven’t studied it yet to get into details but that’s what my provider told me.
