You may have already gotten answers, but can you enlighten anyone with an idea of what you are wanting hauled? Do you need a box truck/trailer, a flatbed, or what? Also, is it for moving purposes? I'm not sure how it is now, but when I drove truck (back in the day), trucking companies had to have "authority" to be able to operate in certain areas.

The Motor Carrier Act of 1980 deregulated the trucking industry on protected areas

Celadon also has an owner operator branch. Not to mention that they as many companies do will sub contract loads out when they don't have enough trucks/drivers to get something somewhere. If they file bankruptcy there will be a trickle down effect to just about every company out there where money is not going to get paid as per agreed. It's better to get started putting everything together now than to wait till later when it's going to be a lot harder to get a piece of the pie.

I don't know how it was back in your day Methuselah.

Now, when filling out the authority papers, one merely 'checks' the boxes to tell the Corporation Commission what one will be carrying.

Livestock, dry goods, sand/gravel, lumber and construction materials, reefer, etc.

It's not necessary to have authority to carry each category, but it is necessary to inform the CC which will be carried under your issued authority.
