I'm either stupid or missing something here, as to how its classified as a shotgun.
Technically it doesn't fit under the shotgun or rifle category but its best fit is a smooth bore shotgun.
I've always thought it was a gimmicky firearm . . .

it basically said that per the NFA and GCA because the lands and grooves were straight and did not spin the bullet, it was not a rifle.
Per NFA it does not meet the definition of a shotgun, therefor per the GCA they will define it as a shotgun and thus anything under 18" shall require SBS status and tax stamp/approval. I saw nothing that stated how it met any definition of a shotgun according to the GCA...it seemed like they just dubbed it so.
